We also go for outreach programs in communities and meet these elderly persons right in their homes and minister to them. We had gained full non-governmental organization (NGO) status in Cameroon since 2001 with capability for our activities to span the entire national territory but we’re fully operational in five regions (Northwest, Southwest, West, Centre and Littoral) as of now.

Through partnership with Seniorenhilfe Kamerun E.V., we were able to construct and equip an eye care center primarily for the elderly persons. Eye care is just one of the many activities we have to offer to Cameroonian old people. We consult and provide eye drugs and spectacles to old age persons free of charge.

Over the years of our work, we have identified numerous eye defects that our old vulnerable persons are suffering from and we have taken measures both in our eyecare center and in our outreach activities to help them. We have identified elderly persons suffering from eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma and more. Considering the fact that Cameroon is a developing country and most of these elderly persons are living under Poverty, some of them not able to deal with their eye health issues from unset and before RECEWAPEC can identify them, they have developed into more complicated eye health issues. We, in the best of our abilities offer free consultation, eye drugs, and glasses to these elderly persons. Some of these eye drugs, glasses are given us as donations, some are bought so we can help these people. But since 2018, the sociopolitical crisis in the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon have had a toll on us and we were unable to meet up with our expectations as it greatly affected our activities and sources. The crisis also greatly affected our beneficiaries as it brought about an increase in Poverty, insecurity in one way or the other has prevented many old age persons from getting the care they need.

Pa Moses is a Cameroonian born in 1947, of age 72 and has been diagnosed with Cataract.  It all started at the age of 30. Before then, he was working as a Cook for a minister and later, he was taking care of the farm of another official. But the problem started after he had stopped these works and came back to Bamenda from the West where he was working. He is all alone, he cooks for himself and manages to survive. When his neighbor has, he shares with him. He learned how to do painting for a living but right now, he cannot do painting, much less anything because of his sight
